A four-story office building in downtown Oakland — which was once home to a Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory supercomputer — could soon house a new AI data center as part of a larger four-property complex. The proposal was visualized by Oakland’s District 3 Councilmember Carroll Fife, and Colin Behring, CEO of real estate development and private equity platform Behring Companies. It entails converting about 20,000 square feet of the approximately 83,000-square-foot building into a data center. The data center would reside on the ground floor of the 415 20th St. building, along with a lobby and security desk. According to a Behring Companies briefing, this development would account for only 1.6% of the total space in the multibuilding complex.
