Since its founding in 2017, The Daily Californian’s Weekender department has sought to deliver unique, Berkeley-centric stories to our community. Over the past nine years, this has evolved to take on many different forms, whether that meant poignant back-and-forth interviews with local Berkeley characters, irreverent and relatable social commentaries on life as college students or transcendent poetic works. Our writing staff includes a broad and diverse range of voices, each contributing a unique lens through which to view the many layers of life in Berkeley.
While our department has existed thus far in a primarily virtual setting, we’ve also had the great fortune of bringing our words to life on the page, through special issues of the print newspaper or, more recently, our newly launched zine, Plume.
