Venus Williams hit the practice courts during US Open media day ahead of her 26th main-draw appearance in New York, extending her record for the most US Open singles appearances by a woman.
Her history here goes all the way back to 1997, when a 17-year-old Venus reached the final in her very first US Open appearance. Just three years later, she won her first title in New York and returned in 2001 to make it back-to-back US Open championships.
Nearly three decades after that debut, she’s still competing at Flushing Meadows.
She practiced alongside Zeynep Sönmez before the tournament officially gets underway.
