Des Moines city officials have found more than $11 million in potential savings and revenue options, leaving City Council members with the final say on which city departments should take a hit and to what extent in an upcoming vote. Des Moines City Council members will head into the Sept. 14 meeting with a total of $11.5 million worth of savings, made up of staff and program reductions, as well as options for new revenue streams. That's just shy of the $12 million the city estimates it needs to reach to fill its budget hole in the upcoming fiscal year 2028 that starts July 1, 2027.
