#Repost @the.root ・・・ Thousands of people in Gary, Indiana, a city where nearly 80% of residents are Black, have been living without power for nearly two weeks. After storms and winds tore through Northwest Indiana on Aug. 11, more than 60% of NIPSCO customers lost power. While electricity has been restored to many communities, officials said Wednesday that about 22,000 customers in Gary were still in the dark. Schools are closed and grocery stores are basically empty. Social media food critic and creator Keith Lee is using his platform to bring attention to #garyindiana and said this week he hadn’t seen enough people outside the city talking about what residents are going through. He plans to visit this weekend to support storm recovery efforts.
