It started because students heard something on campus and told a teacher. San Luis police opened the investigation Aug. 6 after school staff reported the allegations. The next day 27-year-old Genesis Alvarado was arrested and the Yuma Union High School District terminated him. He’d been a digital photography teacher at San Luis High since 2024. Police say the case involves a 17-year-old student and that the conduct dates back to March. Lt. Emmanuel Botello said the two knew each other from school grounds and that investigators also found outside activities where they interacted. Alvarado is facing three felony charges. He was formally charged Tuesday and bond was lowered from $200,000 to $100,000. He has not been convicted. Investigators believe there may be additional victims. If your student had contact with him or you know something, San Luis Police are at 928-341-2420. Send us your stories to be featured on the page. #SanLuis #Yuma #Arizona #ArizonaNews #DownInnaDesert
