NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope could become one of the most important observatories of the next decade. The $4.3 billion mission is designed to map billions of galaxies, study dark energy and the expansion of the universe, and search for distant exoplanets using microlensing and coronagraphy. Its biggest advantage is scale. Roman will have a field of view more than 100 times wider than Hubble’s, allowing it to survey huge portions of the sky with extraordinary detail. Hubble changed astronomy by looking deep. Roman is built to look wide.
