A low forty at first light, off a spot I nearly did not fish. Walked past it twice. Looked like nothing, a flat bit of open water with the wind pushing into it. But I had seen one show there the evening before and I could not let it go. One rod on it, single hookbait, nothing else around it. Three in the morning it melted off. That spot. The one that looked like nothing. That is the whole game right there. The water had told me the night before. I just had to trust it over the swim that looked comfy.
