While losing 40 kg as a nutritionist, I realised something that honestly surprised me.
Some of the “healthy” foods I was adding to my diet because I kept seeing them everywhere on Instagram were actually slowing down my weight loss.
In fact, at one point, I even started gaining weight. Not because these foods were unhealthy.
But because I was eating too much of them.
🥑 Avocado
I thought, “healthy fats, fibre… this HAS to be good for weight loss.”
But 100 g is around 160 calories, and my portions were definitely not 100 g!
🥜 Peanut butter
Another Instagram favourite.
I was adding it to everything because it was “healthy” and had protein.
But 2 tbsp can be around 190 calories. And those extra spoonfuls add up VERY quickly.
🍌 Smoothie bowls
They looked healthy. They felt healthy.
Fruit + milk + dates + nuts + seeds…
But put them all together and you can easily end up with a 300–500+ calorie breakfast without realising it.
🌰 Nuts
Healthy fats, fibre, minerals… absolutely...
