Penn State offensive lineman Will Tompkins has been training for life in the trenches longer than you might think.
Growing up in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Tompkins was raised around combat sports by a father who competed professionally in kickboxing and trained at the Olympic Training Center in taekwondo. Tompkins followed him into martial arts, competing in taekwondo as a child and training in kickboxing throughout high school — skills he says still translate directly to his handwork and hand-eye coordination on the offensive line.
Tompkins reflects on his football beginnings, earning his first offer from Iowa State, the coaching relationships that shaped his career and why coming to Penn State alongside familiar coaches and teammates was a “no-brainer.”
