SPORTS | JMU football’s William Peagler balances fun and accountability in running backs room For JMU running backs coach William Peagler, an effective coaching style is about striking the balance between toughness and levity. “I think football is a tough game. Everybody understands that, but it’s also a fun game that we started playing when we were kids,” Peagler said. “I try to find the perfect balance of holding guys accountable, but also having a little bit of fun with it.” Peagler said it comes down to “upholding the standard.” “If you want to get into the nuts and bolts of it, we talk about having standards,” Peagler said. “As long as you uphold the standard, you can have fun.” The group came up with their standards, Peagler said, which means he can easily hold them accountable. “If you’re not living up to the standard, we’re going to call you out, but we’re also going to praise you when you do it right,” Peagler said.
