SPORTS | JMU football’s Josh Linam leads linebacker room with motto ‘suffer well’ Linam credited head coach Billy Napier with instilling a “certain type of identity [at JMU]” which contributes to the idea of “suffer well,” he said. “Being able to respond the right way with the right attitude, any set of circumstances or conditions,” Linam said, “[the linebackers] just keep coming out and keep fighting regardless.” With the same number of returners and transfers — four each — Linam said he’s seen the group “start to build a bond.” “A lot of that comes from shared adversity, being in the fire together, and being able to trust each other and lean on each other,” Linam said. “When they see that they can trust a guy when things are going wrong, they start to build a stronger bond.” Two leaders of the group have emerged: returning senior linebacker Gannon Weathersby and Nevada transfer redshirt senior linebacker Nakian Jackson.
