SPORTS | Former JMU football player dies in car crash Former JMU football player Luke Warner died in a car accident in North Carolina Thursday morning. The 26-year-old North Carolina native graduated from JMU in 2022 and spent two years on the JMU football team. The accident was a three-vehicle collision. A Toyota RAV4 hit Warner’s Nissan Versa causing his car to collide into a North Carolina Department of Transportation truck, which was stopped in the westbound lanes to remove a deer carcass from the road. Warner was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two other drivers sustained minor injuries, according to The Johnston County Report. The driver of the Toyota was charged by authorities for failure to reduce speed and misdemeanor death by vehicle according to Rocktown Now. Warner was a defensive lineman who spent the 2018 season as a true freshman during former head coach Mike Houston’s last year.
