For the first time in over 70 years, professional women's baseball is real in the US. The WPBL threw its first pitch on August 1st in Springfield, Illinois — the first fully professional women's baseball league since 1998, and only the fifth in the sport's history since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (the league behind A League of Their Own) folded in 1954.
