Vanessa’s journey began with calligraphy, illustrations, and menu boards, all of which led to her creative practice of art on glass. Blending her passions for art and science, she aligned her artistic skills with her interest in wildlife conservation, illustrating the beauty of nature through purposefully designed bird-friendly window murals. Through her creation of these murals, Vanessa’s interest in avian conservation sparked, leading her to pursue her Master’s research at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. There, she studied bird-window collisions alongside building characteristics that pose threats to birds. Her artistic emphasis on wildlife preservation, habitat stability, and environmentally cautious practices notably creates opportunities for community engagement and education at the intersection of art and science.
