With over 17,000 islands, Indonesia is the largest island country in the world. Some islands fall within the coral triangle, home to some of the most biodiverse reefs left on Earth. Others are buried in trash. Despite its incredible marine life, Indonesia is one of the largest contributors to plastic pollution globally. Their waterways are so full of plastic you could almost walk across them. SungaiWatch has been tackling this problem for years, removing over 3.5 million kg of trash from Indonesia’s rivers. We invited them onto our boat, the SeaLegacy1, where they traded their waders for scuba gear to experience the side of Indonesia they fight for every day, yet rarely get to see. It’s easy to get lost in the weeds of conservation. Moments like this remind us what we’re working to protect, and that there is still hope. We loved having them on board, with many valuable discussions about how we can all protect the ocean better. More to come, stay tuned! Photos by Mitty  #Indonesia #...
