I get this message all the time.
A teacher.
A wellbeing coordinator.
A school psych.
Messaging me after a post about a kid frozen at the school gate, saying some version of: “This is exactly what I see in my classroom - do you have anything for us?”
For a long time my honest answer was no.
Everything I’d built was for parents, because that’s the seat I sat in.
But the more staff reached out, the clearer the gap got.
Most training covers what to do when a student’s being defiant. Almost none of it covers what to do when a student physically can’t walk through the door - because it’s not a discipline problem sitting in front of you, it’s a dysregulated nervous system.
And no, this isn’t another “stay calm and be consistent” PD module. It’s the actual mechanism behind what you’re seeing, and what to do with it in the moment.
