Florida State’s defense allowed New Mexico State to convert on 6 of its first 7 third downs.
The Aggies would convert 4 of its last 11 third downs to end the game, and it is still an area of concern for a Florida State defense that struggles to get off the field on third down.
Linebacker Chris Jones mentioned that he and the defensive unit did not play up to the standard on Saturday, and the Seminoles realize the deficiencies and I am confident that it will get corrected before Monday’s matchup against SMU.
Some of it was miscommunication (as they addressed in the postgame) and players trying to do too much. This is Florida State, and the standard is high at a place like this.
Defensive coordinator Tony White and his players know what is expected. 🔥
