Florida State’s defense struggled at times in 2025 with stopping the run, where they ranked 51st in the FBS allowing 138.1 rushing yards per game.
The Seminoles don’t have the services of 6’5” and 337-pound defender Darrell Jackson Jr. in the interior with him going off to the NFL.
Florida running back Jaden Baugh left a bad taste in the mouths of many Seminole fans, as they failed to obtain bowl eligibility, with losing to the arch-rival Gators. Baugh had 38 carries for 266 yards and two touchdowns.
The New Mexico State Aggies were one of the worst teams in the country in rushing offense last year (77.2), but their squad did add a productive back in the transfer portal with Delaware State’s James Jones, who recorded 958 yards and nine touchdowns.
While Florida State has bigger fish to fry with SMU coming to town next week for a huge Labor Day night tilt, it should be important that the Seminoles set the standard of being able to stop the running game of the Aggies.
