Often, the stories we hear from our racers about their journey along the ITI Trail are stories about great people. The acts of solidarity when the weather gets rough or when extreme tiredness kicks in, but also the tales of a warm welcome when reaching a checkpoint. Our checkpoint hosts are very important to us and to our racers because they make the ITI a truly unique experience. Warm shelter and food may be the only things our racers initially have on their mind when reaching each checkpoint but what they get is so much more than that. It’s stories of hard-working, compassionate people living in wild Alaska. It’s a piece of remote Alaska that they get to experience and treasure back home. We are very grateful for the support we get from local communities from Knik Lake to Nome.
