Slate flew me out to their headquarters for the first-ever ride in the Slate Truck, and I got to sit down with chief engineer Eric to break the whole thing down. This is a $24,950 electric truck built on a blank slate — literally. One truck, three or four different body configurations, over 100 accessories, and a wrap system that lets you change the color of your entire vehicle for $500 instead of $2,500. The exterior panels are injection-molded fiberglass composite, so a fender bender means you pop the panel off, do a little bondo, and re-wrap it yourself. Here is what I found out driving it: Range is 205 miles on the single battery pack. Tow rating is 2,000 lbs. Payload capacity is 1,550 lbs.
