Yes, there’s a parallel parking competition in Portland - and it might be my new favorite sport. This was the second iteration of the community competition in Southeast Portland. Roughly 85 drivers participated. They earned points for speed, style, precision, and flair. The block along 29th Street and Pine was filled with spectators cheering on the participants brave enough to put their parking prowess to the test while being perceived. This DIY-style event this year operated in a more official capacity with assistance from the Portland Bureau of Transportation. Drivers won gift cards and parking passes.
