Volunteers in Russia are saving sea lions from fishing nets and plastic waste off the coast of the country's Far East.
Volunteer group Friends of the Ocean spent 10 days on Tyuleny Island and helped 65 marine mammals, officials said. For the past seven years volunteers have conducted annual expeditions to help the sea lions affected by plastic pollution.
Due to active fishing in an area off the island, the animals are at risk of becoming entangled in nets, causing injury and even death.
