Ayetoro's Fight Against Coastal Erosion in Nigeria⁣ ⁣ The coastal community of Ayetoro, in southwestern Nigeria's Ondo State, has become one of the country's most visible examples of the vulnerability of Atlantic coastal settlements to erosion and rising sea levels. Since the early 2000s, coastal erosion in Ayetoro has steadily intensified, with the Atlantic Ocean gradually encroaching on the community, destroying homes, schools, and other infrastructure, and forcing some residents to relocate multiple times. The ocean that generations have lived alongside has become a constant threat, compelling families to rebuild farther inland, only to watch the water catch up with them once again. For many residents of Ayetoro, the question is no longer whether the sea will reach their homes, but when.⁣ ⁣ 📷 odemaismont⁣ #AFPPhoto
