Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is putting his foot on the gas in an effort to crack down on what he calls "trucker fraud," targeting the source.
"We are going to bring safety back to American roadways," he said.
During a news conference in Detroit on Monday, he announced that 270 trucking schools have been shut down, accused of not having enough qualified instructors, lacking appropriate vehicles and facilities to train people, or allowing people to pass their tests even if they don’t speak English.
"You have to speak English to operate a commercial vehicle. I didn’t create that rule; President Trump didn’t create the rule; that rule has been in place for decades," Duffy said.
