September is National Piano Month, and few cities have given the instrument more personality than New Orleans. From Jelly Roll Morton to generations of New Orleans pianists who blended jazz, blues, rhythm and blues, gospel, Caribbean influences and more, the piano became an unmistakable part of the city’s musical vocabulary. Morton, a New Orleans native, became one of early jazz’s most important pianists, bandleaders and composers; the Library of Congress describes him as jazz’s first great composer. 🎹 Who belongs on your essential New Orleans piano playlist? #NationalPianoMonth #NewOrleansJazzMuseum #JellyRollMorton #NOLAMusic #JazzPiano
