The Warm Up Lesson: Move Your Feet
Easier said than done right? Here are some ways you can practice working on moving your feet when playing tennis:
Tip 1: after you hit the ball, actively bounce on your toes as you await the ball coming back to you
Tip 2: try your best to stay on the “balls of your feet” meaning put more weight on your toes than your heels
Tip 3: tire yourself out! If you aren’t sweating and needing a break after a round of rallying or playing competitively, you are not moving your feet effectively. Effective footwork should TIRE YOU OUT
Tip 4: warm up your footwork during mini tennis or during your warm up before you get your racquet in your hands. This should prepare you to utilize your feet more so that the transition to playing tennis is smooth
Tip 5: run for every ball, even the ones way out of reach. Train yourself to get to every ball. You will slowly see how your footwork adapts to such a challenge
