I think we take for granted that the world we want to see will wait for us. We think the place we’ve always wanted to visit will still be the same in five or ten years when we finally take the time to visit. That the animals will still be there. That the landscape will look the same. But the world doesn’t stay still while we make plans for “someday”. There are versions of places that people older than me got to experience that I’ll never see. (Oh how I wish I got to experience Thailand & Bali in the 80’s!) There are places I visited ten years ago that I couldn’t experience in the same way today. And I know there are things I’m seeing now that won’t exist in exactly the same way forever. That doesn’t mean frantically ticking countries off a list because everything is disappearing. It just means I’ve stopped treating “later” like it’s a guarantee.
