August 29 is #InternationalBatNight! To celebrate, we interviewed our Field Conservation team to learn more about these fascinating nocturnal creatures, but made a few changes 🦇 Are you aware? The Bat Conservation Program here at your Toronto Zoo works to protect Ontario’s eight native bat species, seven of which are at-risk species. In partnership with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization (nwmocanada), we lead in-situ monitoring, research, and community engagement to help fight extinction. Bats may come alive after the sun goes down, but their impact on our ecosystems is felt around the clock. By studying populations in the wild, protecting their habitats and helping communities better understand the important role bats play in healthy ecosystems, our team is working to ensure these remarkable nighttime neighbours have a future in #Ontario. For us, being a Guardian of Wild means protecting wildlife and wild spaces, even after dark 🌙🦇 #savingspecies
