63 years after her grandfather stood on these same steps, Yolanda Renee King (yolandareneeking) stood there too, carrying the fight forward.
The 18-year-old granddaughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at this year’s March on Washington anniversary, telling the crowd her generation will be the one that protects voting rights. She was joined by her parents, civil rights organizations, and members of Congress at a rally responding to a wave of redistricting threatening up to a third of the Congressional Black Caucus.
Bernie Sanders, who marched in 1963 as a young man, said the dream has never been under greater threat than it is right now.
