A routine welfare check in Northeast Tacoma led to the removal of more than 100 cats from a home. Officers responding Tuesday to the 6100 block of 29th Street Northeast discovered a large number of cats inside, prompting animal control to obtain a warrant after the resident initially surrendered 16 animals.
By Wednesday, authorities had removed 101 cats, including one that was found dead. Animal control officials described the surviving cats as being in “rough condition,” and the animals will undergo veterinary examinations. The Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office will determine whether charges are filed.
