AI data centers are already in Idaho. The question is whether Idahoans are going to be left paying the bill. These facilities can demand enormous amounts of water and electricity, occupy valuable land, and receive tax advantages while creating relatively few permanent local jobs after construction. I am not against technology. I am against giving away Idaho’s resources without accountability. As governor, I will require existing AI data centers to publicly report their water and power use, tax breaks, and permanent Idaho jobs. They should pay for the grid upgrades and additional demand they create, including paying for their own power. Special tax treatment should only continue when there is a clear, measurable benefit to Idaho. And our water must be protected with enforceable limits, especially during drought.
