After winning a soccer game 11-0 at age seven, Berit Parten knew soccer was the sport for her. Even though she only scored one of the 11 goals, it was the feeling of winning that ignited the fire to become a forward for the rest of her life. Hailing from St. Paul, Parten made a name for herself at the high school level, finishing with 151 goals and 79 assists in her career, both school records at Minnehaha Academy. Alongside three first-team all-state appearances and a state championship, her abilities drew the attention of Big Ten schools recruiting the forward to their programs. Despite receiving attention from other schools in the recruitment process, Parten’s visit to the University of Iowa had her hooked. “A big thing for me was the people on the team and the environment, and I felt that Iowa was a different place than all the others,” Parten said. “It immediately felt like it was home and comforting to be here and still stands true today.” Read the full story on newsstands...
