There’s a few reasons: 1. It’s a 1-2 count with a runner on 3rd. They’re looking for a strikeout on an unhittable ball… not a strike over the plate 2. The pitch called is a ‘back foot slider’ - so it will break towards the hitter. To better set up, the catcher is extra far inside 3. Lots of catchers are doing this from a RKDe (Right Knee Down extended) stance because they can still easily reach across their body and catch a ‘misfire’ on the other side of the plate 4. The camera angle is slightly on the 3B side of the pitchers mound, and since the catcher is further back than the plate it makes it look like he’s even more inside than he really is.
