A landmark work from Yoshitomo Nara’s installation practice is on view for the first time in seventeen years ahead of The Hong Kong Sales. See ‘The Crated Room in Iceland / Drawing Room’ from 2009 now in our Taichung travelling exhibition.
This is one of seven works from Nara’s coveted ‘Crated’ series. It builds upon milestone projects such as ‘A to Z’ and ‘Moonlight Serenade,’ expanding Nara’s artistic universe beyond painting and into an immersive, inhabitable space.
The installation is made of a billboard painting, 97 individual drawings, and carefully selected everyday objects to reconstruct the artist’s world. The drawings encompass many of Nara’s most recognizable motifs—from defiant children to dreamlike landscapes. Seen together, they read as an extraordinary visual encyclopedia of Nara’s artistic language.
‘The Crated Room in Iceland / Drawing Room’ will star in The Modern & Contemporary Evening Auction, presented in partnership with celine, at
