One Heartland, a Minnesota summer camp founded in 1993 for children affected by HIV and AIDS, closed after more than 30 years because its original purpose became far less necessary. When the camp began, 1,630 children were born with HIV in the United States in that year. Today, antiretroviral therapy can reduce HIV in a pregnant person to undetectable levels and dramatically prevent transmission to the baby.
