September 4, 2026 10th ranked Oklahoma opened its 2026 season with a dominant 51-0 shutout of UTEP, giving quarterback John Mateer a strong debut ahead of a marquee matchup at Michigan next week. Oklahoma struck fast. Colorado State transfer Lloyd Avant opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run, and Isaiah Sategna III added an 88-yard punt return score to make it 14-0 in the first quarter. Mateer then found tight end Rocky Beers for a 40-yard touchdown, with Beers hurdling a defender at the goal line, pushing the lead to 21-0. UTEP missed three field goals on the night and never found an answer, as Oklahoma took a 27-0 lead into halftime. The Sooners kept pouring it on after the break.
