LSU took the first set 25-20 behind multiple strong offensive runs, though service errors kept the Tigers from truly running away with it; they finished the set having out-hit Wake Forest .323 to .062 despite seven service miscues of their own. Wake Forest answered in the second set, riding a 6-1 run through the middle to even the match at 25-22.
