Vanderbilt volleyball opened its 2026 season with a 3-0 sweep of Charleston, winning 25-14, 25-20, 25-11 while setting a new program record with 51 kills in a three-set match, hitting an efficient .427 as a team.
The Commodores set the tone immediately, posting 18 kills on a .412 hitting percentage in the opening set to run away with it 25-14. Vanderbilt kept the pressure on in the second, adding 17 more kills to close it out 25-20, before delivering its most efficient set of the night in the third, hitting .593 with 16 kills to finish off the sweep 25-11.
Reese Animashaun led the offense with 10 kills, adding two service aces and nine digs for a well-rounded night on both sides of the ball. Maya Witherspoon added nine kills, and Kayla Dunlap chipped in seven kills while hitting a blistering .667. Setter Avery Scoggins ran the attack with 36 assists as Vanderbilt placed four players at seven or more kills....
