Landing a location of the Buc-ee’s mega-convenience store chain has long been a dream of Iowans. But the Urbandale City Council found that hosting one of America’s most popular roadside attractions came with potential headaches the size of Buc-ee’s home state of Texas. In a 3-2 vote on Tuesday, Sept. 1, the council rejected a proposal that would have cleared the way for the company to begin negotiating zoning and other details leading to a development plan. The company in July filed paperwork with the city about locating a Buc-ee’s on more than 20 acres fronting NW 100th Street, just north of Interstate 80/35's Exit 128.
