Ni Xia Lian won team and mixed doubles gold for China at the 1983 World Table Tennis Championships, before going on to represent Luxembourg in international competition since the 1990s. Everything she learned, she says, traces back to China, and to the many different people who shaped her along the way. Her success was never just her own.
