On this week's Technique Tuesday, U20 World Team Trials champion and incoming Rutgers freshman Anthony Knox breaks down four takedowns from an inside tie — all built off the same threat. His lefty high C is good enough that everyone game-plans for it. That's exactly what makes the fake so dangerous.
Every sequence starts the same way: play with the lead hand, fake the collar, get to the inside tie. From there Anthony fakes the straighten pass to drive his opponent's hips back and drags straight into a double. He fakes the high C and shoots his head inside the hip for a misdirection knee pull. He re-grabs a strong elbow tie and ducks — and when the hips slide out, he catches the head for a headlock. And when the inside trip gets caught, he punches the underhook and puts his opponent on his back.
When your shot is good enough that everybody defends it, the fake becomes the attack.
You'll learn:
- The elbow pass drag — fake the straighten pass, force his feet back, then turn your lat...
