Brisk walking is, without doubt, effective for improving your cardiovascular fitness, increasing energy expenditure and supporting overall health.
But this isn't an all-or-nothing stance.
I've found my sweet spot with walking. I genuinely like it, and my body likes it too.
I'm still moving. I'm still covering ground. I'm still working on my mobility and cardiovascular health, but I'm not powering through every walk as though I'm trying to beat a personal best.
Sometimes I just want to walk.
I want to take my time. Notice the sights. Hear the sounds. Think. Breathe. Be present.
There are so many benefits to walking that, right now, I'm choosing to optimise for things beyond fitness metrics. Don't get me wrong, reaching personal best is fun and fulfilling but perhaps not needed for every fitness activity.
I'm not trying to maximise calories burned on every walk. I'm not trying to hit a certain pace. I'm not turning something I enjoy into another performance test.
