While on patrol overnight, Castlemaine police came across a kangaroo that had sadly been struck and killed by a vehicle.⁣ ⁣ As members passed the animal, they noticed something moving.⁣ ⁣ Inside its mother’s pouch was a young joey that had survived.⁣ ⁣ The joey was carefully wrapped in a jumper to keep warm and safe while members contacted local wildlife carers. For a short time, the tiny marsupial became Castlemaine Police Station’s smallest recruit before being transferred into the care of wildlife experts.⁣ ⁣ Police are often called to assist in unexpected situations, and this was a reminder that sometimes those in need of help come in all shapes and sizes.⁣ ⁣ #NationalWildlifeDay
