Ton and David Stam had grand plans for how they wanted to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their Chocolaterie Stam business in the coming year. The owners of the European chocolate shops, with locations across Iowa and the Midwest, wanted to mark the milestone with decorative chocolate tins that would populate the shelves around Christmas time. The Stams planned to source the material for the tins from a steel manufacturer in Canada, then have them shipped to the U.S. The process was running smoothly until July 20, David Stam said, when President Donald Trump levied an additional 50% tariff on certain Canadian exports over its "discriminatory treatment" of American goods. The Stams aren't the only ones struggling with the inflated costs of doing business in Iowa. Tap the link in our bio for more on this story. #Iowa #IApolitics #tariffs
