September 5th is World Beard Day! It is a day to recognize those with facial hair around the world. For today, since he doesn’t have a beard, Howard letterpress printed an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) of a gentleman with a large beard. We don’t know who is depicted in the print but Lewis Winter created it at his wood and photo engraving business at 627 J Street in Sacramento sometime in the late 1880s or 1890s. This one includes his signature on the cut, which also appears in some of the other cuts in his collection. This was printed with purple oil base ink using our Washington hand press. #SacHistoryMuseum #WorldBeardDay #beard #museumtok #printing
