According to park officials, Marcin Bachleda-Blaszczak, who is from Illinois, was reported missing to Great Smoky Mountain National Park dispatch center Aug. 24. Based on an initial investigation, his last known whereabouts were the Sugarlands Visitor Center parking lot inside the park on Aug. 22, officials said. Following his disappearance, rangers set up an expanded perimeter search around the area.
