Want another tree on your Boston street? You can literally ask the city for one. Boston residents can request a new street tree to be planted on the sidewalk outside their home or business, including requesting a new tree pit if there isn’t already one there. Once you submit a request, the city sends an arborist to inspect the location. If the site is approved, a tree will be planted within one year, with most planting happening in the spring and a smaller number in the fall. You can even request a specific species, although the final choice depends on whether it’s suitable for the location. Requests can be made through BOS:311, by calling 311 or by calling the Urban Forestry Division at 617-635-TREE. The city also handles the tree’s long-term care and maintenance. Not bad at all! By the way, we have a weekly newsletter rounding up what’s worth doing and knowing about in Boston. One newsletter. Once a week. Link in bio. Media via Shutterstock #mustdoboston #bostontrees
