His Mom used to make him one every year as he grew up. She passed away very young so I never had the privilege of meeting her but I love that I can honor her memory on his birthday every year by making the cake she used to make for him when he was a child. I love simple cakes. I prefer to serve this cake plain with a big bowl of freshly whipped cream and a big bowl of strawberries.
