One year ago today, Framber Valdez and his catcher César Salazar had one of the STRANGEST moments of the MLB season. After Salazar appeared to signal for Valdez to step off, Valdez stayed on the mound and immediately gave up a grand slam to Trent Grisham. Just TWO pitches later, Valdez and Salazar got crossed up, resulting in a 93 MPH sinker drilling Salazar directly in the chest 😬 The timing and Salazar’s reaction had fans convinced Valdez did it intentionally, but both players later denied it and said it was simply a miscommunication.
